Job Opening - Library director
The North Brunswick Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a professional librarian to serve as Library Director, effective June 27, 2018. North Brunswick is home to 42,000 residents within 12 square miles in central New Jersey’s Middlesex County. It ranks fourth in diverse communities in New Jersey. Academic neighbors include Rutgers and DeVry Universities. Plans are underway for a new town center with a train station on the Northeast Corridor line.
The Board of Trustees is looking for a dynamic and professional librarian to lead the library in establishing a strategic plan, developing and implementing a plan to build a new or expand the current building, and directing the staff in running the busy library while considering ways to improve and update resources to meet the continuing and changing needs of the community.
The Director will serve as the administrator of the library and be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the operation of the library according to state laws, library policies, and the authority delegated by the Board of Trustees. The Director will maintain effective working relationships with the trustees, township officials, library staff, the Friends of the Library, community groups and the general public. The Director will maintain a welcoming environment that promotes literacy and diversity.

The administration of the library, as delegated by the Board of Trustees, including the management of all public and technical services, programming, physical plant, library budget, library personnel, and all library operations and systems.
The preparation of an annual operating budget and management of capital funds.
Promote the library through effective communication and marketing initiatives including, but not limited to, public appearances, press releases and web pages.
Prepare for and attend Library Board meetings including the preparation of statistical and narrative reports.
The preparation of the annual report to the NJ State Library.
Maintain effective work relationships with the Board of Trustees, elected officials, Friends, community organizations, schools, and the general public.
An ALA accredited MLS, MLIS or equivalent degree.
New Jersey State Certification is required. A minimum of five years of public library experience with at least two years as a supervisor is required.
The applicant must be willing to move into the State of New Jersey within six months of employment. The position is a competitive post under the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.
The applicant should also have a thorough knowledge of professional library principles, practices, methods and knowledge of all phases of public library work; and have strong interpersonal skills, including communication, both verbal and written, and planning.
The salary is $70,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
